On May 16, 2021, WeGo! Leaders delivered over 250 pounds of business attire clothing donations to YWCA Laniakea to support women in our community!

Earlier this month, the student-led organization and academy club, WeGo! set up a clothing drive in collaboration with another student-led operation, Goal Sixteen. The two groups set up donation boxes at the CLC (Cooke Learning Commons) from May 19 to May 21. The groups not only coordinated the inner workings of the donation drive, but they were also heavily involved in marketing the event. Both clubs designed posters, Instagram posts, videos, and more to spread the word across campus, as well as online. As a result, the donation event was immensely successful! Numerous boxes and trash bags filled with clothes were donated in just a span of three days. These donations totaled more than a staggering 250 pounds of just business attire clothing alone. Goal Sixteen donated non-business attire donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. WeGo! donated business attire such as suits, blazers, bags, and heels to YWCA. The business clothes will contribute to YWCA’s “Dress for Success” program. The program has been instrumental in providing the necessary, and hard-to-find resources, that impoverished women need for success. They provide classes on how to find and keep a job, as well as appropriate clothes for work environments. Their goals align with the ones of WeGo! in that they hope to empower women and enable them to be the best version of themselves.
On May 26, 2021, Kylee Hamamoto ‘24, Trisha Nitta ‘24, Avery Mapes ‘24, and Shea Maurer ‘24 visited YWCA Laniakea in order to donate the clothing. All sporting matching WeGo! t-shirts and bright smiles, the group moved piles of boxes into the facility. The girls were also featured on YWCA’s Instagram account.
This event is only the beginning of WeGo!’s non-profit programs. WeGo! has consistently been involved with local non-profits and female innovators across multiple industries. The organization and club has been providing them with platforms to provide students with the opportunity to learn from them. Notable events include ones such as the “Women in Tech event”, “WeGoing Places Conference”, and participating in the “Festival of Ideas.” All three have helped to boost girls' interest in male-dominated fields, and any field that they’d wish to pursue. WeGo! is a young club, but has accumulated over 100 academy members. Despite the organization’s youth, they have already inspired and empowered fellow students, and is working hard to continue to do so and reach students beyond the Punahou campus.
